Scattered showers move through the valley, dry and warmer by the weekend

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) Scattered showers are moving into the Coachella Valley this afternoon, pushing in from the south and tracking northeast across Palm Springs.

A closed low pressure system is spinning over Southern California and pulling cooler air into the desert. It keeps a chance of spotty showers around the valley into this evening, and it fired up thunderstorms over the Inland Empire this afternoon, where up to an inch of rain fell and prompted a brief flood advisory.

Highs are holding in the upper 70s today and tomorrow, about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

A wind advisory stays in effect until 6 p.m. for the mountains, the San Gorgonio Pass and Desert Hot Springs, with west winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 55 mph, according to the National Weather Service. It stays breezy on the valley floor overnight with lows near 60.

The weekend looks dry with plenty of sunshine. Highs climb back into the low to mid 80s Saturday and Sunday, still a touch below normal for late October, and settle in the mid 80s early next week.
