PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - With the Safe House of the Desert location in Thousand Palms closed, News Channel 3 is looking into what options are available for local families during a mental health or behavioral health crisis.

News Channel 3 is speaking with Palm Springs Police about how its Community Behavioral Assessment Team responds to people in crisis and connects them with resources.

We’re also speaking with the Crisis Line Clinical Director from Didi Hirsch Suicide Prevention Center about how 988 works, and when someone should call 988 instead of 911.

News Channel 3 is also working to hear from Operation SafeHouse about the Thousand Palms closure and how Coachella Valley youth are being served.

Tonight on News Channel 3 at 5, we’ll break down who families can call, what happens after that call, and what resources are available locally.
