Golden retriever greets burglar with toy while owners watch break-in

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KESQ) - A San Diego couple flying home from a trip earlier this month watched via a home security app as a burglar broke into their second-story window, snacked from their refrigerator, took a nap, and was greeted by their 4-year-old golden retriever, Nash, who repeatedly offered the intruder a toy.

Dante Rowley and his fiancée, Stephanie, opened their Ring app as their plane was taking off and noticed a ladder from behind their shed placed against their second-floor window, which had been left slightly open.   

The intruder, John Cline, 57, climbed inside, removed his shirt and shoes and made himself comfortable. According to Rowley, Cline raided the refrigerator, ate yogurt, turkey, and cheese and then took a nap. Throughout the ordeal, Nash continually brought different toys in an attempt to play.

From 30,000 feet in the air, Rowley texted the San Diego Police Department and granted officers live access to the Ring camera app.   

San Diego police arrived at the Sherman Heights home within five minutes. Footage showed officers deploying a drone inside the residence before entering with guns drawn. Nash greeted the responding officers with a toy as well.

Authorities arrested Cline on suspicion of first-degree burglary. Rowley said the couple provided a real-time play-by-play to law enforcement while coordinating with officers via phone and the security app.

The security footage has since gone viral on social media.
