Goldenvoice

INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) - Festivalgoers are arriving in Indio for the inaugural HeadTrip music festival at the Empire Polo Club, but the excitement comes as potentially dangerous weather threatens to impact the weekend.

The two-day festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, with thousands of music fans expected to travel to the Coachella Valley.

While attendees prepare for a weekend of live music, rain, strong winds and possible flash flooding are in the forecast for Sunday.

Festival organizers have encouraged attendees to download the official HeadTrip app and enable notifications for weather-related updates. As of Friday morning, News Channel 3 has not been able to verify any publicly announced changes to Sunday's festival schedule.

Meanwhile, the Indio Police Department is preparing for the influx of visitors, with traffic management, crowd safety and potential weather impacts among the concerns heading into the weekend.

News Channel 3's Raymond Kalra is speaking with Indio Police Sergeant Plata about preparations for the festival, how officers are managing arrivals and what safety plans are in place if conditions deteriorate.
