Firebirds fall to Abbotsford Canucks 7-3

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) – The Coachella Valley Firebirds have fallen to 2-2-2-0 on the season after a loss on the road to the Abbotsford Canucks 7-3.

While it was a difficult game for the Firebirds, it was highlighted by rookies Ryden Evers and Julius Miettinen each scoring their first professional goals. Logan Morrison also added his third goal of the season.

In the third period, Abbotsford moved out to a 4-0 lead, before Evers came in for his first professional goal and points on the board for the Firebirds. The goal broke a 135:48 goalless stretch, which the Firebirds said is the second-longest in franchise history.

The Canucks scored six times in the second period. Coachella Valley said, in its post-game press release, it's the most goals allowed in a single period by the Firebirds in franchise history. A record that was previously four.

Coachella Valley was outshot 40-24 by Abbotsford, and the Firebirds finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay compared to the Canucks at 2-for-5.

The Firebirds are back on the ice in Abbotsford on Sunday, Oct. 18. Stay with News Channel 3 for continuing coverage. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. PST.
