Avon’s two late goals lift Firebirds to comeback victory over Gulls

COACHELLA VALLEY, Calif. (KESQ) -- The Coachella Valley Firebirds finished their four-game road trip Wednesday night in San Diego, seeking to snap their winless streak of four games.

Despite trailing 2-0 to the Gulls, the Firebirds surged late, led by J.R. Avon's two goals in less than two minutes.

Avon tied the game at 2-2 with 1:41 remaining in regulation. He then followed that up with another goal and the eventual game-winner with 21 seconds left.

With the 3-2 victory, the Firebirds finished the road trip on a high note. They'll return home Friday to host the San Jose Barracuda. Puck drop is at 7pm at Acrisure Arena.
