Gov Newsom signs executive order to increase sanitary measures & paid sick leave for food sector workers

During his daily coronavirus response update briefing, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he signed an executive order that will increase sanitary measures and give 2 weeks of supplemental paid sick leave for those in those in the food sector.

“These workers on the front lines of this crisis are our unsung heroes for continuing to work to ensure that Californians have food on their tables during these challenging times, and we must do everything in our power to make sure they are taken care of at home and in the workplace. Making sure they have paid sick leave and added protections in their place of work is critical,” Newsom said.

On Wednesday, Governor Newsom announced a number of new initiatives to help workers who have lost jobs or wages as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Some of the new initiatives include changes to the Employment Development Department to help process more unemployment insurance claims and accelerate access to the Work Share program, the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, and financial support to undocumented immigrants.

As of April 15, there are 24,424 confirmed positive cases. 3,171 of those positive patients are hospitalized, 1,175 are in the ICU.

Here in Riverside County, there are 2,105 positive cases as of April 15.
