Palm Desert big rig crash causes traffic to grind to a halt
Workers had uprighted an overturned big rig semi-truck after a crash on interstate 10 in Palm Desert early Monday morning, and two freeway lanes were reopened to traffic.
The wreck happened in the freeway's westbound lanes just west of Washington Street. The crash and resulting cleanup brought westbound freeway traffic to a stand-still.
The California Highway Patrol reported the collision just before 12:30 a.m., and closed all westbound lanes shortly afterward.
Westbound traffic was diverted off of Berkey Drive.
Eastbound traffic was not affected.
Crews on the scene had uprighted the truck and opened the shoulder to traffic by 4:00 a.m.
There were no reported injuries, and the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
There was no estimated time of reopening.
Alternate routes to take include Varner Road or Country Club Drive.
