Dozens peacefully protest in Desert Hot Springs
Protestors lined up along Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs this morning. Many driving by showed their support for the cause.
They marched around calling for justice and wanting it now.
“Its time for change," said Jojo Green.
The call for reform comes from the killing of George Floyd and several others who experienced police violence and social injustice in America.
“We want police reform, we want them to dismantle the police brutality and all of it and we want them to be held accountable for their actions and the things that they do," said Karla Rivera, a protestor.
“Cops can realize that all lives matter," said Angel Lopez. "Cops can actually stop killing people and we wouldn't be here right now if that officer didn't take his neck off George Floyd.”
The group of protestors were super energetic, chanting, cheering, holding up signs even having a dance party all while calling for a change.
“If you have a voice use it don’t be scared to use it everyone will listen," said Ruben Abila." There’s never a voice ever too small or ever too big. everyone is equal.”
The group showed their moment of solidarity.
“The point is just showing that we love each other as a human race at the end of the day we’re going to come together and we’re going to help each other out," said Oscar Gutierrez, a protestor.
Desert Hot Springs police were also keeping a watchful eye on the crowd.
According to Chief Jim Henson, he said his department supports peaceful protests.
“It’s just not black lives that matter, all lives matter, asian, hispanic, white, everybody," said Victoria Teddi.
According to Coachella Valley Activists Instagram page, Monday June 8th, a peaceful protest in support of Black Lives Matter was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We'll have more on this protest tonight at 5 & 6 p.m. on News Channel 3.
