President Trump resumes briefing after short lockdown due to shooting outside White House

President Trump returned to his briefing after a shooting outside of the White House. Trump said the shooting outside is now "under control."

The shooting took place near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue just blocks from the White House, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation who were not authorized to speak publicly about it.

Law enforcement officials were still trying to determine the suspect’s motive.

Trump said the Secret Service shot a suspect, who was then taken to the hospital with serious or possibly critical injuries, according to the District of Columbia fire department. Authorities are investigating whether the individual has a history of mental illness.
