Missing Couple Mystery: Family looks back on 2 years since disappearance
It was two years ago today when Jonathan Darling and Audrey Moran were last seen or heard from.
"That's my son. That's Maria's daughter. We'll wait as long as it takes for us to wait," said Mayra Torres, Darling's mother.
She's waited two years for Darling and Moran to come home. It's a missing person's case with few answers as to what happened to the Coachella Valley locals between the late hours of May 10th and early May 11, 2017.
"These are two kids that have been missing for two years. They've [investigators] got to solve this. Are they even in the Valley? I don't even know what to ask anymore," Torres said.
What she does know, is someone knows something.
"That is the scary part, that person that is responsible and those people that know, walk among all of you and any of you that do not say anything that actually may know that one person, you're out of your mind to let this continue," Torres said.
News Channel 3's Lauren Coronado asked Torres, "In your heart, when do you think you'll be reunited with Jonathan?"
Mayray replied, "Oh God. I've had too many of those visions, where you think you hear that knock on the door and you open it and he's standing there. Or that phone call. I see so many different scenarios, but then I also see different kinds of scenarios."
Two years of living in the unknown. It's a reality Moran's mom, Maria Moran, is also facing. She says she continues to hold hope tells News Channel 3; "Each day that ends is a small victory, and it's another day closer to finding them."
Torres says she tries to stay positive and beleives this is part of Darling's purpose.
"We have learned to love more, to be kind more. We have learned to be patient, to believe. They are the book and each of us is the chapter in it," Torres said.
Torres and her other son, Garret, spent the day in Puerto Rico, where they planted a flower in honor of Darling. Torres says she chose this particular place to plant the flower because she's had dreams of seeing Darling there. On a Facebook post, she said she hopes to come back to the flower and watch it bloom alongside Darling.
On the night of their disappearance, investigators say Moran got off work at the Extra Space Storage in Bermuda Dunes, briefly stopped at her sister's at around 8:00 p.m., then left to pick up Darling. The pair was set to meet at an unknown location between Coachella and Imperial County. On May 12, 2017, police found Audrey's car on the side of the road on the I-10 in Beaumont. Investigators said nothing seemed amiss with the car.
"No forced entry on the vehicle, no signs of forced entry in the vehicle, no blood or anything like that," Indio Police Department Sgt. Dan Marshall.
Everything else about their disappearance remains a mystery. Many of their loved ones still have some of the same questions they had the day the pair were first reported missing.
