FIND’s Giving Society aims to expand donor base

It’s the season of giving, but one local group makes giving a priority 365 days a year. FIND Food Bank’s Giving Society makes monthly donations to stabilize FIND’s budget to make sure they can fund programs like school farmers’ markets over multiple years.

An early morning breakfast at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa brought together current and prospective donors to expand the program.

“This whole program is about coming together and saying we believe that if we invest in these kids and give them access to healthy fruits and vegetables that they need to grow and thrive, they can break the cycle of poverty. They can go out and get educated, and they can become part of society,” said Lisa Houston, FIND CEO and president.

Nicole Moon was the guest speaker at the event. She knew poverty as a child after her once affluent family fell on hard times. She shared her emotional testimony with guests, highlighting her firsthand experience with hunger.

“It’s important that people realize that though I may not look like I have been through troubled times, we all have, and you never know if the person standing beside you at the grocery store…if they have or don’t have,” Moon said.

Members of the Giving Society remind prospective donors it’s a small sacrifice that makes a big difference for those in need. The commitment is $84 a month over five years, totaling over $5,000 by the fifth year. That’s roughly $2.75 a day. According to FIND’s mission to provide seven meals for every $1 donated, that’s more than 35,000 meals donated to those in need from just one member of the Giving Society.
