Robert Road repaving underway in Thousand Palms
Drivers in Thousand Palms can look forward to a smoother and safer commute thanks to a $588,000 road repair project that began Wednesday.
Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and the Riverside County Transportation Department announced the beginning of the project with a ceremony at the Thousand Palms Community Center.
“Due to its deterioration, Robert Road is among our county roads in sorest need of repair,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “It is one of the main entries into the Thousand Palms community, providing access to the school, park, community center, library and neighborhood. I am pleased this project will make a dramatic improvement for residents and visitors, making it easier and safer to travel while creating work and aiding our efforts to attract more businesses and jobs.”
The project will rehabilitate a quarter-mile segment of Robert Road from Ramon Road to La Canada Way in Thousand Palms. The work will include an overlay of asphalt, installation of curb ramps and replacement of a damaged sidewalk. A portion of the roadway is in such deteriorated condition that it will be reconstructed as part of this project.
Construction will be performed by Matich Corporation of San Bernardino, and is expected to take one month to complete.
