Cathedral City man pleads not guilty to possessing child pornography
A Cathedral City man who allegedly amassed more than 2,000 sexually explicit images of underage children, which he’s accused of posting on social media websites, pleaded not guilty today to charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
Kevin Lee Nichols, 56, was arrested Feb. 1 at his home in the 68100 block of Estilo Road, according to Cathedral City police Cmdr. Julio Luna.
The investigation began Jan. 24, when the department was notified of “pornographic images of young females that were posted on social media sites,” he said.
Nichols was arrested at his home the following week after officers served a search warrant and seized “multiple electronic devices,” according to Luna, who said investigators discovered images “depicting children between the ages of 3 to 13 years of age.”
Nichols was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, and released the following day on $50,000 bail, according to county jail records.
He’s next due in court May 24 for a felony settlement conference. Court records do not indicate any prior criminal record in Riverside County.
