Three Palm Springs hotels make ‘world’s best new hotels’ list

Three places to get away in Palm Springs – three hotels honored as some of the best in the world. The Rossi, Kimpton the Rowan, and Holiday House were named to Conde Nast Traveler’s 2018 Hot List, an exclusive selection of the world’s best new hotels as determined by the magazine’s editors.

“Our annual Hot List is an all-encompassing review and selection of our favorite new hotel openings of the past year,” said Pilar Guzmán, editor-in-chief of Conde Nast Traveler. “By celebrating the very best, we hope to help set a standard for those who follow so that when we return decades down the road, we will still recognize and be transformed by these places.”

The list, which is composed of 102 hotels in total, considers the most elite hotels that have recently opened. Palm Springs beats out major cities across the country with its representation on the list; Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, and Washington D.C. can only claim one hotel apiece on the list.

“We are so honored to be a part of this incredible collection of hotels from around the world,” said Avalon Rossi, one half of the mother-daughter ownership duo of The Rossi. “This honor is so special to us because being a small, family owned business, we would have never been able to garner the attention that this award has granted us. We are overwhelmed with joy and pride in our hotel, and we’re so excited to see what the future has in store! “

The Rossi, which had also been honored by Trip Advisor as the No. 2 best small hotel in the United States and the No. 5 best hotel for romance in the United States, was first built in 1920 and then reimagined in its current form in 2017. It is owned and operated by Marina and Avalon Rossi.

The Kimpton Rowan, in contrast, is run by Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group Inc., and touts 65 world-class hotels the whole world over. The San Francisco-headquartered company opened its Palm Springs location in November. The Rowan offers 153 guestrooms and suites for customers to choose from, as well as the “only rooftop pool in Palm Springs,” according to the hotel’s website.

“It is truly an honor to be ranked among the hottest hotel openings of 2018 on this esteemed list,” said Abe Liao, general manager of Kimpton The Rowan Palm Springs. “Our dedicated team members along with our partners have helped turn a vision into reality; the Palm Springs community and our guests have given us the opportunity to extend our Kimpton hospitality in this beautiful desert city. This is a proud moment for all of us.”

The third honoree, the Holiday House, has a similarly intimate feel to the Rossi; its 28 rooms and history dating back to 1951 grants its guests a reprieve from the bustle of the chain brands.

“The Hot List is one of the most widely recognized awards in the hotel and hospitality world and we couldn’t be more excited to have Holiday House on this year’s list,” said Jackie Mendez, general manager of Holiday House. “We are so proud of the property and its offerings and are thrilled to be recognized for our design, service and amenities. It has been great to see the hotel embraced by locals and guests alike.”

Whether you’re looking to go the boutique route or the brand-name route, Palm Springs has certainly proven itself as an ideal destination for any traveler looking to rest their feet somewhere new and innovative.
