Update: 2-alarm Indio Walmart fire caused by solar panels, caused $ 1 mil in damage
Update: The Indio Walmart fire was caused by “Electrical/Solar Panels,” according to Cal Fire. The total cost of the damages is estimated at $1,000,000, while $4,000,000 worth of damage was prevented by firefighters.

A 2-alarm fire has been contained at the Walmart located at 82491 Avenue 42 in Indio, according to Cal Fire. The fire was contained shortly after 11:00 a.m. The fire began on the roof near a segment of solar panels. A full investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
The fire was reported at 10:26 a.m. 42 firefighters and eight fire engines are on the scene combating the blaze. The interior of the store sustained some water damage due to the activation of the sprinkler system.
The store has been evacuated.
Two firefighters were transported to the hospital for evaluation with non-life-threatening burn injuries. One civilian was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Fire crews are expected to remain on the scene for the next three hours.
The store will remain closed for the rest of day. It is unclear at this time if the store will be ready to reopen on Wednesday.
