The Cathedral City Lions two-sport star is one of the best athletes in our valley, making highlight plays a regular occurrence. JG3 is committed to play football next season at Montana Tech.

Story by Cody Krupp

In the fall football season you’re going to find James Green finding the open green to the endzone. Then come spring he is running away from the pack without a football in his hand but instead the 100M DVL Champ or jumping his way to D3 CIF Champion.

“Good feeling to go in and win the division and be the division three champ it is a great feeling to have,” James Green III said.

Despite not winning a football game his senior year he still thrived while keeping the Lion’s roar alive.

“You have to be consistent with going to practices and keep their spirits up. Show them that there is hope even when there feels like there isn’t any,” Green said.

“Even in the kids in lower levels, junior high and you see a kid come through like that and has a lot of success. Real humble and personable kid and they say James can do it so can I,” Richard Lee said.

1,100 miles away in Butte, Montana.

“It is small, but a good football town,” Green said.

James Green III is going to be playing football for the Montana Tech Orediggers.

“How far it is from home, it is not going to be like oh I need something from mom I can just get it from her. Been thinking about it and adjusting to being on my own but I am ready for it,” Green said.

“He is a really great kid, ask anyone, teachers, people on campus he is just a really really good kid. When you have a kid that works hard and is talented and you see him and he has that success and it just makes you feel good cause this is the kind of kid you want to be successful,” Lee said.

Hoping to see the football early and often.

“They want me to play early. I’ll be one of the athletes that go up earlier than everybody else so they can get me in the program and working out with the team,” Green said.

Showing people in Montana that we play some pretty good football here in the Coachella desert.
