Lineup announced Palm Springs International Short Film Festival
The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is still a ways away, but for cinephiles from the Coachella Valley & beyond, a premiere event is fast approaching. The Palm Springs International Short Film Festival & Film Market, also known as ShortFest, one of the most acclaimed short film showcases in the world, has officially announced its lineup for the event’s 24th iteration.

The seven-day event is jam-packed with 333 films from 62 countries. ShortFest will take place from June 19-25 at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs, and touts a history of some major film juggernauts; more than 100 films that have been presented at the festival have gone on to receive Oscar nominations.

But the event doesn’t just feature screenings; for industry professionals, the Film Market portion of the event allows industry guests to access more 5,300 films from 5,400 submissions. Additionally, the ShortFest Forum serves as an event within the event, with three days of panels “covering a wide range of emerging trends and new practices in the global film community,” according to the event’s news release.

For filmmakers, ShortFest serves as a potentially meteoric springboard for their works; the festival is designated by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), and the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) as an award-qualifying festival. A victory at Shortfest is no small feat and can prove to be quite a laurel to rest on for filmmakers to the whole world over.
“We’re thrilled to be sharing this year’s lineup,” said ShortFest Festival Director Lili Rodriguez. “With an increase in submission numbers, we knew we’d have our work cut out for us, but the programming team has narrowed down the selection to a wonderful collection that includes some of this year’s festival favorites as well as amazing new discoveries. We were so impressed by the quality of these stories and we can’t wait to pack into theatres and share them with our audience this summer.”
The positively fresh event will feature 42 World Premieres, 32 International Premieres, 42 North American Premieres and 13 U.S. Premieres.
