Charred remains found in the same day & area as officer-involved shooting
Charred remains found on the same day and area where a man was shot by Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched Sunday morning at around 3:30 a.m. to the area of Lincoln Street and 66th Avenue to help California Highway Patrol officer and CAL FIRE crews. Both were already at the scene dealing with a non-compliant person armed with an axe.
Shortly afterwards, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The man was later pronounced dead in the hospital. The Sheriff’s department said there are no outstanding suspects, no threat to the community, and no injuries sustained by law enforcement personnel. The suspect’s name will not be released at this time, pending the ongoing investigation. The Deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave per department policy. The Deputy’s name has not be released at this time.
Cal Fire crews returned to the area of Lincoln Street and 66th Avenue at around 5 p.m. the same day of the shooting to extinguish smoldering debris at the scene of an earlier fire and deputy-involved shooting. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the charred remains of an adult woman were found while separating a pile of debris.
The Coroner’s Office is in the process of identifying the woman and investigating her cause of death.
Any relationship to the suspect involved in the deputy-involved shooting is currently unknown, according to the Sheriff’s department.
