Man shot in Desert Hot Springs undergoes surgery, expected to survive

A man who was shot in the stomach in Desert Hot Springs on Sunday afternoon is expected to survive, said Police Chief Dale Mondary.

The shooting happened in the 66700 block of 8th Street around 2:20 p.m, said public information officer Doria Wilms. One man was struck in the upper body and transported to a hospital, she said. Mondary said the man underwent surgery and was recovering in the intensive care unit.

One viewer reported a helicopter was circling in the area after the shooting. Wilms said police were searching for the shooter. Mondary said that as of Sunday night, the DHSPD was interviewing suspects and that there was no other information to relay. The victim has not been identified.
