Here’s how to stay safe during mosquito season

Mosquito season is upon the Coachella Valley and the first cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Riverside County. The buzzing bugs can bother even the most patient person, but there are plenty of ways to keep mosquitoes at bay.

One thing to watch out for in particular is something that might just blend into the background of your backyard; standing water.

“If it just stands there, with the pool filters not functioning anymore, and it’s looking kinda a green – that’s the place where you’re probably gonna see mosquitoes,” said Jennifer Henke, Laboratory Manager at the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District. “That’s the water we wanna get rid of.”
