5-acre vegetation fire in Thermal contained

Firefighters are currently on scene of a three-acre vegetation fire growing in Thermal.

The fire was reported at 4:19 p.m. Avenue 60 X Polk Street. Crews on scene said multiple vehicles and containers have been engulfed.

According to Cal Fire, first responders reported the one-acre fire is burning at a medium rate of spread in duff. As of 5:20 p.m., the fire has grown to three-acres and is threatening nearby structures.

Firefighters reported the fire was fully contained just after 7 p.m. Crews will remain on scene until 10 p.m. According to Cal Fire, the fire grew to five-acres before it was fully contained.

The California Highway Patrol shut down Polk Street between Avenue 60 and Avenue 69. No word on when those roads will be back open.
