Minivan crashes through Chevron station storefront in Palm Desert, no injuries reported

Cal Fire and California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene of a vehicle crashed through the storefront of a Chevron station at approximately 10:10 a.m. this morning. The vehicle is a gray Toyota Sienna minivan.

The vehicle was removed from the building by approximately 11:35 a.m.

According to officials, the driver’s foot slipped onto the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing unexpected acceleration and the subsequent crash.

“Sometimes people just mix up the brake for the accelerator” said CHP Officer Jackie Quintero. “They are not really paying attention to what they’re doing and they don’t happen to see that they are actually pulling into a stall, there are a variety of ways that these things can happen.”

The station did not sustain structural damage.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
