One dead, multiple people injured following Desert Center Rollover crash
One woman died Sunday afternoon after a rollover crash left multiple people injured in Desert Center.
Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters responded to a vehicle rollover on Interstate 10 and Desert Center Rice Road Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol released a statement Monday saying, “for unknown reasons, the Prius traveled to the left and off the roadway.” The statement continued, “The Prius then overturned and came to rest on its side in the open dirt center median.”
Family remembers Desert Center crash victim
The collision happened at 10:56 a.m. Three others suffered minor injuries and all were transported to an area hospital.
Rachel Lopez, 40, of Moreno Valley died Sunday afternoon at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.
A 48-year-old male passenger suffered moderate injuries and was transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.
A 15-year-old male passenger and an 8-year-old male passenger also both suffered minor injuries and were transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash. Its cause was under investigation.
The CHP statement said the driver and remaining occupants were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the collision. Alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to be a factor.
