Deputy involved in La Quinta crash released from hospital

A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy involved in a single-vehicle collision on July 14 was released from Desert Regional Medical Center yesterday, according to Investigator Armando Munoz of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The deputy, who remains unnamed, crashed an RSO patrol car into a palm tree while traveling eastbound on Avenue 50 near Washington Street in La Quinta at approximately 4:18 a.m. on Friday, according to California Highway Patrol’s Indio area public information officer Jackie Quintero.

Avenue 50 was closed between Washington Street and Moon River Drive for approximately four hours following the collision.

The Deputy was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Drugs and/or alcohol were ruled to not be a factor in the crash.

The collision is still under investigation.
