Man finds mom covered in termites in La Quinta senior living community

When Robert Rohan set up his mother living situation at a senior living center in La Quinta, he expected a safe, caring, and sanitary living environment. 2 years ago he first noticed signs of termites in the living facility, and just two weeks ago, the situation got pretty serious.

“My mom was complaining [about] something…on her,” said Rohan. “So when I lifted up the sheets she had termites all over her belly.”

The termites seem to permeate the place and come out in full force at night.

“if you walk down that way at night time they are all over the ground – everywhere…
The shock…. you see your mom 84 years old, Here she is in bed, can’t move,” said Rohan. “She’s in a senior facility that should be well maintained and she has all these termites all over her.”

Rohan pointed out the damage that’s been done – termite mud tubes hanging from the ceiling in a closet, and door stops and floor moldings torn apart.

“It’s been like this for quite some time and now it’s gotten to the point where I found them on my mom,” Rohan said. “I brought it to [management’s] attention, it’s just nothing’s being done.”

The manager at Seasons at Miraflores said the infestation is being addressed, but would not give an official comment to News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2.

Rohan said the facility inspected the apartment within the last few weeks, checking everything from appliances, cabinets, closets, and doors, but did not do anything about the existing termite damage.

“I don’t see how inspectors come in here and inspect the place and not say anything or do anything,” Rohan said. “They see the condition my mom is in… Seems like they would jump on it and do something about it.”

News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2’s Jake Ingrassia reached out to officials in La Quinta’s code compliance division, who said property maintenance of a private community is out of their control.
