Jazz in the Pines in full swing this weekend

If you’re looking for some great music and trying to help a good cause, check out Idyllwild’s annual music festival “Jazz in the Pines” this weekend: August 10-11.

The event is featuring over 25 musicians and bands performing both Saturday and Sunday. Festival-goers can also enjoy food, drinks and 50 local vendors.

It’s the 25th year for Idyllwild’s “Jazz in the Pines” festival. All proceeds from the event go towards the Idyllwild Arts Academy, a school that trains students in all kinds of creative professions.

Pamela Jordan, the Academy’s President and Head of School, says students are trained in “music, dance, theater, musical theater, creative writing, film and digital media, fashion, inter-arts […] these are passionate, driven students.”

Some students will have the opportunity to perform with the professional musicians tomorrow at the event. “It’s definitely an experience — playing first, in such a small department, you really get to know each other as musicians,” said Ray Godfrey, a student at the Arts Academy.

Others students expressed gratitude for their experience at the Academy and the festival. “It’s very inspiring and it kind of makes me want to…be that successful one day,” said Kaley Plaisted, another student.

You can still buy tickets for “Jazz in the Pines” online or at the venue. The festival resumes Sunday morning at 11 am and goes until about 5:30. Former American Idol Stars Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart will close out the show.
