Palm Springs Councilmember Lisa Middleton honored by CA LGBT Caucus
State lawmakers honored Palm Springs Councilmember Lisa Middleton Monday for her efforts in advancing causes supporting the LGBT community.
Middleton, the first transgender person to be elected to a non-judicial office in California, was honored by the California Legislature’s LGBT Caucus during a special Pride Month Ceremony at the State Capitol in Sacramento.
“This is a wonderful honor. I want to thank the LGBT Caucus for recognizing my efforts to fight for equality and the civil rights of our LGBT community,” Middleton said. “In Palm Springs, we celebrate diversity, inclusiveness, and we welcome everyone. I am proud to bring our Palm Springs values to Sacramento and accept this special recognition.
The recognition comes just over a one after the entire council was honored by the LGBT Caucus on both the state Senate and Assembly floors for being the first entirely LGBT city council in the nation. The historic feat came with Middleton’s election to the council last November, as well as the election of Christy Holstege, who identifies as bisexual.
