Indio police warn car clubs against ‘Park and Chill’ events

Police in Indio said they do not want car clubs to hold ‘park and chill’ events in their city.

A planned hangout Saturday night was canceled by the Indio Police Department, the agency announced on its official Facebook page. Sgt. Dan Marsall told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that it was canceled because the after hours events can turn into dangerous situations and may encourage illegal activity like street racing.

The car clubs changed the location of their event as a result, and met at a Sonic parking lot in Cathedral City.

The IPD said it encourages Car clubs to avoid the Indio area, and that officers will enforce traffic laws and inspect vehicles for illegal modifications. IPD said officers receive special training to identify modifications and issue citations.
