SunLine unveils student artwork-clad buses in La Quinta

Two local students whose artwork will be displayed on a SunLine bus over the next year will have their works officially unveiled during a ceremony in La Quinta today.

The winners of SunLine Transit Agency’s 2018 Student Art Contest, which encouraged Coachella Valley students to create art depicting the relationship between public transportation and the environment, saw their Works publicly revealed during a 10 a.m. event at La Quinta City Hall.

Out of 119 entries from 10 desert schools, the work of fourth grade Carter Elementary School student Nadia Frutkin and sixth grade Palm Desert Charter Middle School student Chanbin Park will be displayed on the side of a SunLine bus for the next year.

“This unveiling ceremony will be a celebration of the entire program and how it increases awareness on the importance of transit while educating local youth on how SunLine is one of the nation’s leaders in alternative fuels — which ultimately contributes to the air quality in our communities,” SunLine CEO and General Manager Lauren Skiver said. “We’re excited to see the looks on Nadia’s and Chanbin’s faces when they see their artwork come to life in a very big way on one of SunLine’s hydrogen fuel cell buses.”
