23-acre brush fire burning near Beaumont 100% contained

Firefighters successfully contained a 23-acre brush fire that shut down all westbound lanes of Highway 60 near Interstate 10 west of Beaumont for several hours.

The fire was reported just before 1:45 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol. It burned both sides of the 60. Caltrans announced all lanes were back open at shortly before 8 p.m.

17 fire engines, 2 air tankers, and one Cal Fire are being utilized to combat the blaze.

A fire investigator was at the scene but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
