Driver identified in fatal crash, family sets up GoFundMe

Authorities identified a woman who died in a collision with tow truck that was stopped at an intersection Sunday evening.

The Riverside County Coroners Office said Itzel Contreras Ontiveros, 22, of Cathedral City died at the scene minutes after the wreck.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by the victim’s family.

The crash happened in Cathedral City Sunday around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Gerald Ford Dr. and Date Palm Dr.

The Northbound lanes of Date Palm Drive were closed for a few hours due to the crash investigation, but have reopened as of Monday morning.

Cathedral City Police say they are still investigating the cause but that this is a good reminder to watch your speed.
