Motorist killed in Rancho Mirage collision
A motorist was killed in a traffic collision Monday evening.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to a crash around 9:45 p.m. on Bob Hope Drive and Highway 111.
Officials said the north and southbound lanes of Bob Hope Drive, between Highway 111 and Rancho Las Palmas were expected to be closed until approximately 8 a.m Tuesday as authorities investigated the crash. The roadway was open to traffic again though by 4:45 a.m.
Police said no one else was in the car at the time of the crash.
News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2’s Lauren Coronado arrived on scene shortly after the crash and spoke to a witness.
That witness estimated the driver was traveling between 80 and 100 miles per hour before crashing into a Palm Tree.
The witness also said no other cars were involved in the crash.
Police have not confirmed if speed, alcohol or drugs were a factor.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The identity of the driver is unknown.
