Palm Springs Aerial Tramway opens after maintenance
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is up and running again after being shut down for its annual scheduled maintenance.
“So many things happened this year,” said Cara Youngman, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway spokesperson.
Youngman tells us the tram is celebrating its 55th anniversary this month.
And while there were talks of adding new features, like a zip line, leaders decided to focus on what makes this Palm Springs’ most popular tourist attraction.
“No plans on any kind of expansion,” Youngman said. “We’re going to keep things the way they are; they work. During maintenance, we do some facelift, some painting, but for the most part, things will remain the same.”
More than 20 million people have ridden the tram since it opened — and what a ride they get.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway travels 6,000 feet up from the floor of the Coachella Valley to the San Jancito Mountains in less than 10 minutes.
“It’s beautiful,” said Maria Sison, a tourist visiting from Chicago. “It has desert, it has mountains. It has everything you need in one place.”
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is open every day until September.
