International Meatball Festival supports Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club

Today Cathedral City sponsored the 6th annual international meatball festival — a colorful and tasty fundraising event with all proceeds benefiting the Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club.

The event featured live music, wine tasting, raffles, classic cars and of course, a meatball tasting contest.

“It means that the community is supporting us and the youth in our community. Most of these are local businesses and they are here supporting our local kids and giving back to their own community,” said Alyssa Milward, the program director for the Cathedral City Boys & Girls Club.

“It makes it look like people actually care about us and our community is growing by showing more people how we love each other and how we’re a big family,” said Odette Ascencio, a young member of the club.

Nine restaurants participated and served up their best recipes. The event was hosted and organized by Sammy Pace, the owner of local Italian restaurant “Sammy’s Place.”

“I’m proud to be a part of this. and to be able to do this — it’s outrageous. I’m just really, really pleased. And I’m so pleased that all the people come out to support it,” said Pace, who is now on the board of directors for the club and has even taught the kids some of his own secret recipes.

Cathedral City Council, the fire department and police were all present to show their support. Leaders and kids from the club say it means so much to see the entire community show up to help.

Scott Robinson, the CEO of the club, says the event also sets a great example for many of their kids interested in culinary arts and business — and allows them to see community leadership in action.

“So when we’re able to show these leaders giving back, it really helps us showcase to our leaders to give back,” said Robinson.

The club tells us their next fundraising event will be their 9th annual “Holiday Extravaganza” on December 3rd at the double tree.
