3.5 magnitude earthquake strikes just north of San Jacinto

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake centered about a mile north of San Jacinto shook the Hemet and San Jacinto valleys today, but there were no reports of damage. The quake struck at an approximate depth of 8.5 miles.

The temblor was recorded at 3:09 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which reported the epicenter as 1.1 miles northwest of San Jacinto and 3.5 miles due north of Hemet.
