Valley political organizations work to get people to polls ahead of Election Day

The day before Election Day, volunteers both Democratic and Republican organizations here in the desert are giving one final push to get out the vote.

Volunteers at the Republican Women Federated headquarters in La Quinta were helping walk-in voters better understand ballot measures and find their polling places. They were also phone-banking for Republican candidates.

“Everybody’s obviously a little nervous and excited at the same time,” said podcast host and Republican headquarters volunteer Rich Gilgallon. “This is an odd year. This is a year when you would expect less people to vote but a lot more people are voting than anticipated.”

Democrats of the Desert were also phone-banking at their headquarters in Cathedral City. Hitting the pavement, going to door-to-door was state senate candidate Joy Silver.

“I’m out here today to make sure that people come out and vote and that they vote the democratic ticket,” Silver said.

We’ve reached out to the campaign Republican state senate candidate Jeff Stone — they say he’s going door-to-door as well.

“I believe the best way to shape your future is to start today and you have to start by putting your desires and your wishes into action,” said Democratic HQ volunteer Donald Morgan. “If you don’t get out and vote you have no influence in the outcome.”
