Indio City Council race separated by three votes

Just three votes separate Mayor Mike Wilson and Indio native Waymond Fermon in the race for Indio city council. As of now, Wilson leads 723 to 720.

This year was the first year district-based elections went into effect and the Riverside County Registrar of Voters continues to track ballots coming in.

Fermon told KESQ & CBS Local 2 he feels optimistic and the battle isn’t over just yet.

“From the beginning all the way to the end, we are very confident pull this out these three votes and three votes is very minuscule, so we’re very confident,” Fermon said.

According to the Registrar’s office, approximately 200,000 votes by mail, 45,000 provisional, and 5,000 damaged ballots have yet to processed.

“We’re gonna trust the process and we’re pretty sure and confident all those ballots will get counted and where the chips fall, they fall but we want to make sure all our residents are counted for,” Fermon said.

The Registrar’s office started sorting through those remaining ballots Wednesday morning. The next update due by Thursday at 6 p.m.

With the race still being counted, there has been a push for voters to check their receipts to verify the status of their ballot. Voters can use their ballot receipt and number on the California Secretary of State website.
