Amtrak investigating death of man who “came into contact” with train in Indio

Amtrak is investigating the death of a man who came into contact with a train early Thanksgiving morning in Indio.

An Amtrak spokesperson told KESQ & CBS Local 2 the man was trespassing on the tracks when they came into contact with Amtrak Sunset Limited train 2 at approximately 1:53 a.m.

According to the Riverside County Coroner, the incident happened 100 yards west of the 83000 Block of Indio Boulevard. The 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:09 a.m. The man has yet to be identified as next of kin have not been notified.

The train was on its way from Los Angeles to New Orleans, the Amtrak spokesperson said. Nobody on the train reported any injuries. The train was delayed for about 3 hours and 46 minutes.
