Brightwood College to close Palm Springs campus

Thousands of students across the country, and in Palm Springs, were shocked to learn Wednesday their schools were closing.

The for-profit Brightwood Colleges informed students via email their campuses would shut down on Friday.

KESQ viewers said they’d previously been assured they would be able to finish the degrees to which they’d already been enrolled, but that is not the case.

In October, Brightwood’s parent company, Education Corp. of America said it owed nearly $50,000,000 to creditors. The company, based out of Alabama, asked a judge to keep landlords from kicking it out of its locations.

Brightwood took over for Kaplan College at the Palm Springs Mall on Tahquitz Canyon Way in June 2016.
