TRAFFIC ALERT: Highway 86 backed up due to construction
Traffic was backing up for approximately three miles along State Highway 86 in Coachella Friday morning as road construction shut down one of two northbound traffic lanes.
The construction closure was between 52nd Avenue and 50th Avenue.
Southbound Highway 86 traffic was not impacted by the road work.
Caltrans said the work is part of an ongoing pavement replacement program repairing nearly 150 miles throughout the Coachella Valley.
The $17 million, seven-month project began in July and was initially beset by problems with collisions in the Interstate 10 traffic backup.
On October 18, the CHP issued a SigAlert in both directions of Interstate 10 at Washington Street due to numerous collisions in an area where traffic was backed up due to the construction work.
