Man and woman plead not guilty to alleged armed robbery of Beaumont business

A man and woman accused in an armed robbery of a Beaumont business pleaded not guilty today to robbery charges.

Kristen Renee Schmitt, 31, of Fort Mohave, Arizona, allegedly demanded cash at gunpoint from the clerk of an unnamed business in the 500 block of Beaumont Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. last Friday. David Lyle Harrison III, 28, of Whitewater, was the alleged getaway driver.

The suspect was seen getting into a light-colored Chrysler 300, which was captured in surveillance footage, according to police. The vehicle was spotted by officers just before 11 a.m. Saturday near First Street and Beaumont Avenue, where Schmitt and Harrison were arrested. Police said they found a handgun, 1.8 grams of methamphetamine and “various prescription narcotics” inside the car, and that clothing belonging to Schmitt matched the clothing the female robbery suspect wore in the heist.

Both defendants were charged Tuesday with robbery and allegations of committing a felony while using a firearm, while Schmitt was additionally charged with possession of controlled substances while armed.

The pair are slated to return to court Dec. 21 for a felony settlement conference.
