Cathedral Canyon Drive closed for ‘indefinite period of time’

Cathedral Canyon Drive in Cathedral City will remain closed for “an indefinite period of time” according to a statement issued by the city Tuesday.

The thoroughfare closed Thursday amid historic heavy rains and flood conditions.

The roadway has received “severe damage” at the Whitewater Wash.

“City Engineers have determined that the road must remain closed for an indefinite period of time until further inspections can be made and a road repair plan implemented,” read the city’s statement.

Travelers are advised to avoid the area entirely and take alternate routes. The city recommended Date Palm Drive as an alternative, which “just opened its new $22 million bridge expansion several months ago”.
