Firefighters contain fire near Indian Canyons

Palm Springs and tribal firefighters were mopping up an overnight wildfire near the Indian Canyons early Monday morning.

The fire reportedly broke out shortly before 1:00 a.m. along South Palm Canyon and Acanto Drive.

A KESQ News Channel 3 news crew at the scene estimated the fire’s size at approximately two acres. Palm Springs Fire later estimated the fire, burning in moderate brush, blackened 3 acres of land.

There was no threat to homes nearby, but some News Channel 3 viewers reported observing smoke in the area.

The fire was contained by 1:45 a.m.

Palm Springs Fire said two additional Engines from Cathedral City and Cal Fire assisted with City coverage during the incident. BLM Fire units remained on scene conducting mop-up operationts.

And the fire’s cause remained under investigation by BLM Fire Investigators.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.
