23-year-old killed in shooting in Cathedral City identified

A man killed in Monday night shooting in Cathedral City has been identified.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the shooting victim as 23-year-old Daniel Garcia of Cathedral City.

Acting Cathedral City Police Chief Anthony Yoakum confirmed the deadly shooting, which occurred on the 67100 Block of Santa Barbara Drive at approximately 8:05 p.m.

Commander Herrera of the Cathedral City Police Department said the incident did not appear to be gang-related.

According to a news release by the Cathedral City Police Department, Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.

Cathedral City Police have not announced any arrests or possible suspect description at this time. Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.

Authorities have closed Santa Barbara east to San Luis Rey and San Antonio to the west. These closures are anticipated through the early morning due to police activity.

Monday at around 4:42 a.m.near the intersection of Acoma Avenue and West Drive in Desert Hot Springs, a man found dead in Desert Hot Springs with a gunshot wound.

Police have not said whether they believe these shootings are related.
