Rain or shine, these Thanksgiving turkey trots are still set
Rain or shine, the turkey trots are still set to take place.
Martha's Village Thanksgiving Day 5K in Palm Desert will happen no matter the weather. This is according to senior development officer, Larissa Kerstetter. The race starts at 8 a.m. on El Paseo and San Pablo.
"Hey I know the weather forecast isn't great but we are running rain or shine so get down to El Paseo on Thursday morning, put on a rain coat, put on a hat and get there. Thursday morning, the kickoff is at 8," Tracey Starr, board member and volunteer at Martha's Village and Kitchen told News Channel 3.
"We're making plans for inclement weather. We're getting extra tents, extra coverings but you have to put your rain coat on. Take care of that, put a hat on, wear comfy rain resistant shoes," Starr added.
Running Wild's Wild Turkey Trot 5K in downtown Palm Springs is a go, Molly Thorpe tells News Channel 3. The race starts at 8 a.m. and benefits Mizell Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.
"Race takes place rain or shine. We have this handy turkey hat that everybody gets with registration so I guess that'll help shield people from the rain but if you don't have that or you don't want to get the turkey hat wet, a trash bag, a poncho, anything that kind of shields your head, that'll help you deal with the rain," Thorpe said.
"Most people who are participating we tell them it may rain but they don't seem to care. Everybody's in a good holiday spirit for Thanksgiving and they just want to be here with their families and friends," Thorpe added.
Right now, we are still waiting to hear back from event organizers with the 16th annual Turkey Trot 5K run and walk in Old Town La Quinta. At this time we are waiting to see if this event is still set come rain or shine. This walk/trot/run will benefit Save-a-Pet, a no-kill animal shelter in Desert Hot Springs.
If you are planning to attend any of these events be prepared for rain if the forecast remains the same. Don't forget the umbrellas and dress warm!
