Avenue 50 Re-Open After Early Morning Accident

A car collision on Avenue 50 and Van Buren in Coachella prompted crews to shut down a large stretch of roadway, while the scene was cleaned up, earlier Monday.

The accident happened around 5:15am. Officers tell News Channel 3 a pickup truck was going southbound on Van Buren and collided with another car going westbound on Avenue 50.

There was one driver in each vehicle, and the driver of the pickup, 51-year-old Jose Rubio is now listed in very critical condition at Desert Regional Medical Center. The driver of the sedan, 42-year-old Julio Hernandez, was treated for minor injuries and released.
