Three Middle School Students Treated For Taking Narcotics

A 12-year-old Desert Springs Middle School student could face charges after police say she provided 3 other students with a prescription narcotic.

The students took the pills before the start of school on Thursday, and received medical attention.

The student who police say provided the pills was detained then released to her parents.

Police aren’t saying what type of pills they were, but they were illegal to possess without a prescription.

There’s no decision yet on whether criminal charges will be filed.

Parents of students at the school received an automated call Thursday from principal Ryan Saunders:

Hello, this is Desert Springs Middle School Principal Ryan Saunders. I wanted to alert you to a situation we had on campus this morning. We became aware that a few students had ingested a pill that they had taken prior to the start of school. Three students ingested the substance and received medical attention. We identified the students responsible for bringing and distributing this substance, and appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken by school and law enforcement officials. Please remind your children that we have a zero tolerance policy for this type of behavior as safety is our number one priority at Desert Springs Middle School.

Desert Hot Springs Police are investigating the incident.
