Injured Hiker Rescued Near Idyllwild
A 49-year-old man who suffered an ankle injury while hiking with a group of Boy Scouts near Idyllwild was airlifted to safety today.
The Mission Viejo resident, whose name was not released, left with the group around 11 a.m. Sunday on the Deer Springs trail, said Deputy Melissa Nieburger of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The man hurt his ankle and the boys were led out with a leader, while another person stayed behind with the injured man, Nieburger said.
The leader who left with the scouts contacted a park ranger and a rescue team was deployed, but inclement weather prevented them from reaching the injured man, according to Nieburger.
The men had proper clothing and were found this morning in good condition, the deputy said.
