Cathedral City Driver Faces List Of Charges After Hit-And Run

A man who allegedly was involved in a hit-and-run crash in Cathedral City and then rammed the vehicle of the other driver who chased after him was behind bars tonight, facing multiple charges, including assault and DUI.

Miguel Aldrete, 20, of Cathedral City, was allegedly in an Acura that collided with a van just before 2 p.m. near Date Palm Drive and Ramon Road.

Aldrete allegedly drove away in the Acura and was followed by the driver of the van, which had six passengers.

The Acura hit a traffic sign in a cul-de-sac in the 69150 block of Cascades Court, where the other driver positioned the van to try to block the Acura from leaving.

But the driver of the Acura rammed the van, and the Acura bounced off and struck a parked car.

Aldrete then allegedly drove across multiple front lawns before abandoning the car in the 69100 block of Kemper Court.

Police found the abandoned van and later arrested Aldrete in the 32100 block of Desert Vista after receiving descriptions given by witnesses and determining that he had the same last name as the registered owner of the Acura.

Aldrete was booked into the Indio jail on seven counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count each of DUI, driving without a valid license and vandalism.
